Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen
Origin: Brauerei Heller-Trum (Bamberg, Germany)
Style: Rauchbier
ABV: 5.1%
Notes: Schlenkerla is Bamberg’s the Roxy. Similar to this rite of passage in Vancouver that a few NHL’ers and Dave Pratt could attest to, this brewery states that those who don’t go to try the ”Original Schlenkerla Smokebeer” cannot claim they’ve been to Bamberg.
The story behind its name:
Its roots lie within the Frankish vernacular, in which “schlenkern” is an expression for walking not straight – just like a drunken person does. Allegedly one of the former brewers had a funny way of walking due to an accident, or maybe due to the beer, and so he was called the “Schlenkerla” – the little dangler. (a Pavel Datsyuk reference perhaps).
This brewery tavern, situated directly underneath a cathedral, also makes a Lentbeer, served only during Lent (of course) from Ash Wednesday to Easter.

Brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law – a 1516 regulation that limited beer production to the use of three ingredients: water, barley and hops
