day 12

Donder & Bliksem  “Thunder & Lightning”

Origin: Brouwerij de Molen (Bodegraven, the Netherlands)

Style: Bohemian Pilsener

ABV: 6.2%

Notes: Donder & Bliksem, not to be confused with Donner & Blitzen, is the reason why Nood & Deugd came into existence.

Why can’t we just get along: Part II – When De Molen was brought into the U.S. market, North Coast threatened to sue them over Rasputin – a limited release Imperial Russian Stout in their lineup – claiming consumers would mistake it for North Coast’s Old Rasputin. To make a long story short, De Molen renamed its RIS – Disputin for U.S. distribution, along with the following caption:

This stout used to be called Rasputin, but the people who make Old Rasputin in California thought you were too dumb to tell the two products apart, and threatened to sue us for trademark infringement.

On a lighter note, Brouwerij de Molen currently brews  in a 300-year-old historic mill, giving the brewery its name.  Named “De Arkduif” (the Ark’s Dove), the mill is said to bring peace and happiness.
